Summary of AYP Indicators
Reading/English Language Arts: All versions of the TAKS test are used as AYP indicators. Telpas reading LAT in grades 3-8 and 10 are used as well. All students are part of the AYP; however, there are subgroups that consist of African American, Hispanic, White, economically disadvantaged, special education, and LEP. The performance standard is 73% but is only based on students enrolled the full academic year. The performance improvement or safe harbor is based on a 10% decrease in the percentage of those not meeting proficiency. It could also be based on the improvement requirements for either graduation or attendance rates. The participation standard is 95%. On the day of assessment, 95% of those students enrolled must participate. The average participation rate is 95% based on the combination of the last two previous years. A school is measured by either the performance standard or the performance improvement/safe harbor and either participation standard or average participation rate. |

The performance improvement/safe harbor is the same as in the reading test where there is a 10% decrease in the percentage of those not meeting proficiency. It could also be based on the improvement requirements for either graduation or attendance rates. The participation and average participation rate is the same as in reading. |
Attendance Rate: The attendance rate standard is 90% or an improvement. There is an attendance rate for elementary schools, junior high schools, and a combination of elementary and secondary for schools and districts not offering grade 12. |
Graduation Rate: There are various forms of graduation rates. The 4 year graduation rate is 90% or a rate target of 75 or a safe harbor graduation rate target. The improvement percentage is 1% or more. For the 5 year graduation rate, the target is 80%. Graduation rates are for high schools and combined elementary and secondary schools in districts offering grade 12. |
